STORY

The story of Brickfielder

Since European settlement South Australia has been the favoured climate for densely packed, bright, super premium red wines. Three regions stand out, the Barossa, McLaren Vale and Coonawarra and one wind dominates, the Brickfielder. Seasonal warm winds from the dry inland interior channel in from the north during vintage towards the coast, aiding in sugar development and veraison and reducing disease pressure. The result, small yields of intense, high quality balanced fruit recognised globally for its flavour profile. We have the Brickfielder to thank for that.

REGIONS AND INFLUENCE

Coonawarra – the story of The Austin Brothers

Solomon, Josiah and Thomas were the first European settlers into Coonawarra in 1840, who brought with them flocks of Spanish and German sheep from Tasmania. The site of their original establishment is now known to the public as Yallum Park, a large plot of land now listed as a historical site.

Barossa Valley – the story of George Fife Angas

George Fife Angas, well known as one of the original surveyors of Barossa Valley, immigrated to South Australia in 1851 with his wife and sons. George and his family settled in Lindsay Park near Angaston (the town named after him) in Barossa Valley.

McLaren Vale – the story of William Colton and Charles Thomas Hewitt

William Colton, joined by Thomas Hewett, were amongst the first settles of McLaren Vale in late 1839. Colton was responsible for establishing the Daringa Farm and both men would be iconic in the establishment in the early days of McLaren Vale.
